Who doesn’t like a good dram with some delicious BBQ food…?
Some of you might already know about my, @Whiskypeater, other big passion… BBQing 🔥. So when I received an invite from the BBQ Pitmaster Community to join a BBQ food and whisky paring Masterclass in collaboration with Tony van Rooijen (Keeper of the Quaich and Glenfiddich Ambassador for The Netherlands), we couldn’t resist 😅.
We’ll get you trough all the combo’s, but unfortunately we can’t share the BBQ recipes 🤷🏻♂️
Tullamore Dew – Asparagus tartare with apple and a marinated prawn
We weren’t unfamiliar with Tullamore Dew. It’s an easy and accessible Irish whiskey and we need to be honest: we wouldn’t have of a bottle of this in our cabinet. But… it paired really good with this BBQ bite. So it’s a good starter for sure!

Glenfiddich 12 – Celeriac puree with smoked eel and dried banana

The Glenfiddich 12 is just a Classic! It’s an easy pick when we go out for diner, because most restaurants have it on their drink menu and it’s always good.
Pairing it with this bite, what a good match! The smoked eel, and sweet taste of banana blends well with the fruity flavors of The Glenfiddich.
Aerstone Landcask – Grilled chicken leg
The Aerstone Landcask is the (slightly) peated “brother” of the Seacask. Funny, because we would think it’s the other way around.
A well balanced combination with peat, light spiced chicken and some sweet honey notes from the whisky and the tasty grilled chicken.
We need that marinade recipe!

Ordha 21yo – Sugar bread with pate

The sugar bread with pate was definitely not our thing, mainly because of the pate, because we like a big slice of sugar bread… but that didn’t mind. The Order 21yo made up for all 🥃🤤…
The nose of this whisky is just phenomenal! Expect a lot of oak spices, some sweet vanilla and fruit notes and creamy toffee.
We’d like to thank Tony van Rooijen for pairing these BBQ bites with whisky’s and giving us the background stories. We wouldn’t mind a 6 course dinner next time 😉.
Special thanks to Marc, from the BBQ Pitmaster Community, for arranging this event. We’d love to do these more often!
Hopefully there will be some more whisky lovers next time, so if you’re in to BBQ and whisky… check out their community and join us next time 🥃🔥.
